Los Angeles’ Little Tokyo Book Project
Project Coordinator: Deanna Matsumoto
With Arcadia Publishing, the Little Tokyo Historical Society has published Los Angeles’s Little Tokyo, a book of historic images documenting the 125-year history of Little Tokyo. The Little Tokyo Historical Society sponsored “Community Photo Share Days” inviting the public to contribute images to both the book and our newly created digital archive. Photographs from the renowned Miyatake Studio, the Los Angeles Public Library, and the Japanese American National Museum are also included in the book. The book is now available for purchase! Please visit our Little Tokyo Book page for details on getting your copy! Makes a great gift! LTHS Website and Digital Archive
Project Coordinators: Helen Kim, Mika Yokota, and Simone Fujita
The LTHS website is currently in beta mode and will be consistently going through tweaks and additions. The website will highlight current and past projects, events, news, and personal stories celebrating Little Tokyo's heritage. Be patient with us as we do our best to bring the rich history and current events of Little Tokyo! The digital archive is an ongoing project to collect photos of Little Tokyo's past and present. Eventually, we hope to share these on the website with the public for research, education, and cultural preservation. Maryknoll (St. Francis Xavier Japanese Catholic Center) Archives
Project Coordinators: Deanna Matsumoto and Harry Honda
The Little Tokyo Historical Society has digitized the Maryknoll collection of photographs from the Mary Poon collection and others, covering nearly 100 years of its history. Over 400 images have been annotated and archived. Calendar
Project Coordinator: Dave Nagano
The Little Tokyo Historical Society has created a unique calendar of Little Tokyo that showcases the community with historic photographs. Being part of the Historical Society has been somewhat like detective work, and the calendar will attempt reflect that sense of excitement of discovery in uncovering and sharing images drawn from the neighborhood’s long history. We hope that this can be used as a fundraising opportunity for any group interested in distributing the calendar this year and bring positive attention to the history of Little Tokyo. For your copy, please join us at the November 21st book launch or stop by LTSC today! |
